- History/Biography

Portrait by UndelAccording to recently amended Silvermoon City records, Sidoran Sunlash was [not] executed centuries ago by members of his own house. The exact reason for this is unknown, as the corresponding case files were lost, presumably during or after the Scourge’s march on Quel’Thalas. There are few who are old enough to remember the scandal, but only Sid knows the whole truth. It all started—or rather, it all went wrong—when his attempt to expose his family’s growing corruption backfired. At the time, House Sunlash controlled much of the kingdom’s legal system, allowing them to twist the law as they pleased. Discovering they were covering for heinous acts committed by one of their own spurred Sid to take action. His family retaliated by pinning the crimes on him, protecting the true perpetrator—his younger sister—while at the same time removing their idealistic young patriarch from the picture.
To save face in the wake of the scandal, House Sunlash personally oversaw their errant son’s punishment. Thus Sid was lashed with the family’s namesake whip, then left to die in the wilderness beyond the elf gates. He survived thanks solely to the humans who found him, but even after recovering he knew he was stuck. His people thought him a dangerous criminal, his family thought him dead, and there was nothing he could do but stay away and let them continue thinking such. He spent many years aimlessly wandering Azeroth before finding the Light, and he continued to traipse the globe even afterwards as an itinerant Paladin. He was already old by the time the First War broke out, but that didn’t stop him from joining with the Alliance to fight. He remained in their ranks until the Third War saw the disbandment of the Silver Hand and the destruction of the Sunwell, at which point he felt lost all over again.
While he identified with the plight of the blood elves, Sid was still leery of returning to Quel’Thalas. He kept himself at a distance by joining with the newly formed Argent Dawn. The years slipped away as easily ever, and it wasn’t until after the battle for Light’s Hope that he received news of his family. Even with them gone, it was still months before he could work up the gall to return home. There wasn’t much a legacy left to reclaim—just a signet ring, a deed to a blighted tract of land, a handful of coins, and the enchanted whip that nearly killed him. Laying hands on those meager scraps of nobility made Sid realize he’d been running from his past for far too long. He feels obligated now to try and do something to make up for the debauched actions of his relatives. He’s painfully aware the Sunlash name will likely die with him, but he wants to at least die knowing he did some good for his kingdom.
