- History/Biography
Kariis was born during the Draenei’s struggle against the corrupted fel orcs on the world of Draenor. These were terrible times, but the young Draenei always tried to keep a positive outlook, to honor the Light, and to persist for the wellbeing of his people. Over time, though, it became easy to hate the orcs just as much as the demons that manipulated them. When the Draenei retreated to Telredor in Zangarmarsh, Kariis fumed, eager to use his blades to cut down more mad orcs and reclaim his people’s hard-won land.
It was here, on this mushroom above the bioluminescent bog, that Kariis first heard the teachings of Nobundo through one of the shaman’s first students. Kariis’ military discipline married well with the meditative calmness associated with the teachings of Shamanism, and it wasn’t long before spirits of water and wind and fire started to respond to the Draenei’s call.
Kariis was selected to be a part of the strike force to take the Exodar, and so it was his fate to plummet to Azeroth along with the rest of the refugees. He miraculously survived in a pique of chance that he attributes to the spirits – tumbling from the Exodar’s broken hull, Kariis landed in the great sea. Waves and currents bore him to the surface and deposited him gently ashore.
Today, Kariis knows that the fel orcs of his birthplace are not the orcs of the Horde, and it is with growing curiosity that the Draenei has heard that the orcs, trolls, and tauren of Azeroth practice shamanism. While his peers are eager to dismiss the Horde’s shaman as primitive brutes, Kariis is slowly finding an urge to find a way to study and find peace with these others who have been so gifted by the elements.
