Character Biography
- History/Biography
Henry Chapman was born in the Kingdom of Arathor forty years before the Orc invasion. As the fourth son of a wealthy mercantile family, he was sent to Lordaeron to study with the priesthood at the Cathedral of Light there. Known for his humility and devotion to the Light, as well as his scholarly pursuits, he first came to the notice of the King's Court when, as the Bishop of Southshore, he coordinated the care and placement of the refugees of Stormwind during the First War. His service during this time was not forgotten by the Crown and fifteen years after the First War, Father Chapman was selected to replace Clement IV as the Archbishop of Lordaeron. It was at this time that he took the liturgical name Benedect.
Benedect served with distinction as Archbishop of Lordaeron, though he often found himself in conflict with the more aggressive members of the King's Court, in particular the paladins of the Silver Hand. Believing that initiates of the Light should not take up arms directly, he opposed the creation of the paladins and the foundation of the Silver Hand itself. Despite this opposition, he became fast friends with Uther the Lightbringer and coordinated closely with the Silver Hand after their foundation. Benedect disagreed directly with the Crown over the matter of the orcish internment camps, suggesting instead that they be granted a controlled region of land near the small town of Brill to live in.
When Prince Arthas Menethil returned from investigating rumors of zombie-infested towns in the northern reaches of the Kingdom, the Archbishop was fortunately not in attendance in the King's Court. Tending to the Lordaeron orphanage, he personally gathered the orphans there as well as many of the city's children into small fishing boats on Lordamere Lake. As the Scourge and the Traitor Prince burned Lordaeron, its former Archbishop escaped, himself now a refugee.
Benedect travelled with the rest of the refugees of Lordaeron into Azeroth, eventually making his way to Stormwind. He has since that time worked tirelessly with the orphans of Stormwind, many of whom he personally escorted from Lordaeron for years ago. Until relatively recently, he has maintained a quiet, hermetic lifestyle at the Cathedral. Of late, he has begun conducting weekly sermons on the Light and many suspect that he will again become a powerful political force within the Church, this time of Stormwind.
