Skip forward to about 7 minutes in for one of the most amusing thesaurus-like scenes I've ever scene on this subject matter, for when you're trying to come up with names for... it.

The vast majority of sex scenes are utterly pointless (as far as character & plot are concerned) and exist wholly for the gratification of the author/director/&c. They're a queer sort of exhibitionism. I suppose if you recognize that much, then go ahead, but at least have the decency to serve some strawberries with your cheesecake.

None of the responses quite work for me either.

If I am reading a good story that has explicit content - sex or violence - that *adds to the story*, then it is just fine.  However a blog entry that is largely a sex scene or a fight scene can easily seem gratuitous.  Does it shine a light on part of a developing plot?  Does it help illuminate an aspect of someone's character? The best erotica is built on a foundation of a larger picture in plot or personality.  Out of context it can just seem like attention-seeking amateur porn.

I just want to be clear I'm not saying this with direct reference to your work, as the fact you've done this poll suggests you haven't posted a story of this nature yet!  Just giving my opinion as developed by reading Haven and other RPing/story-writing sites over the past few years.  Cheap smut is everywhere - it's boring and largely poorly-written. 

Bottom line for me as a reader:  "The plot's the thing", as the quotation goes  :)
