RP
Submitted by Ineesa on January 16, 2009 - 7:45am So recently we've had a couple people return to RP here, and of course everyone is always *looking* for RP as well. Now there's been much discussion, as always, about different approaches to finding RP, different types of RP people enjoy, so on and so forth. I have heard about threads such as this one and it's been on my mind for quite a while, and I'm thinking now is the time to start one. If you're looking to RP, open to RPing, or simply want everyone to know what sort of RP you're about and where you can be found, post a summary below. Basically, like this:
Submitted by Shryn on December 23, 2008 - 4:48pm Reposted as forum topic as per request, Arti. After reading Hakkajin's thread, I realized that on both Horde and Alliance side there seems to be a lack of knowledge regarding RP guilds that currently exist. In order for RP to flourish and take off again on Shadow Council, we NEED to support each other. It doesn't matter if you are RP all the time, some of the time, in guild chat or toon-to-toon. Knowing what each guild is about means that when you snag that RPer who is NOT quite the right fit for YOUR guild, you can get them to a guild where the fit will be better. If you're looking for a guild, this thread will help you decide which guild suits what you're looking for. This will also be an awesome resource for those who want to plan events with each other, or try to foster guild-to-guild relations, or try to take over the world ^_^. Someone requested that we have a way to ask questions. If you want to ask questions, please do so here - just be certain to reply to the specific guild you have the question for, and don't turn it into a huge discussion or debate. Just ask your question, get your answer and move on. I've provided an 'example' as a reply to my listing for Pox if anyone doesn't know what I mean. Format is below the cut, and thanks to those who support the idea.
Submitted by Lorith on February 2, 2012 - 9:30am Okay, peeps. Looking over the discussion on my last blog about the Block, what seems to be the biggest issue is getting the RPers that DO exist out of the woodwork and rubbing elbows. The Block itself, located in the Golden Keg, isn't quite as open as, say, the stoop Fancy Cakes takes place at in Silvermoon, though I did choose the Keg because of the high traffic outside with the bank/AH and the hearth point inside. More than once someone hearthed in to a crowded Block and whispered me, "Wow! I didn't know there was still RP on this server!"
Ah, good times, good times.
BUT, unless you're hearthing in, running in for sugar or stopping in to vendor stuff to Colin, you're not going to stumble upon the Block like you'd stumble upon Fancy Cakes in Silvermoon. So I'd like to find a location for our big party that WOULD attract attention from people passing by, be visible, and easy to get to.
Submitted by Echö on July 22, 2011 - 6:01am I'm posting this topic out of curiosity, because every so often opinions and perspectives pop up in blog comments that make me go, "Hmmmmmm." It may well be one of those topics that can only be answered by various opinions and perspectives, but if so, I think it's a good thing to let that be known so we can fall back on the trusty advice of BE SURE TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY OOCLY WITH YOUR FELLOW RPERS!!
Submitted by Lorith on June 20, 2011 - 9:51am Six months ago, Deathwing blew up the world.
Six months ago, a dwarf awoke in a chilly cave in Dun Morogh and didn't know what to do with herself.
Six months ago, an old soldier learned how to bake a mean chocolate cookie.
Six months ago, The Choppin' Block opened.
(The images below the break may just break your screen. They are that full of awesome.)
Submitted by Wildmane on April 14, 2011 - 11:11am I'm sure this is something a number of you have probably dealt with in the past before, so I kinda need to pick the brains of Haven posters here for a bit regarding some advice.
This is a very old character, rolled easily within the first year of WoW's existence and probably within a few months of Shadow Council itself opening up. I've had a lot of fun with him in that time and he's seen huge chunks of the world and plenty of the people who make it up. Thing is, though, lately I've been at a loss about what to actually do with him RPwise.
Strictly in terms of PvE mechanics I've been chugging along merrily (Cataclysm is just frickin' awesome) but on the RP front I feel like he's just going through the motions at this point. He doesn't really have a story; when I first rolled him creating a good one was pretty well beyond my capabilities as a person and roleplayer on Shadow Council.
Submitted by Rashka on January 5, 2011 - 9:26pm Seeking Pvpers! Well seasoned, and beginners alike are welcome!
I had some inspiration for a new event -"Friday" Night Fights; I was thinking maybe a large scale cross-faction event one night a week (not necessarily on Fridays, per se).
It could be presented in different "rings", or if held in an arena, the different matches would take turns competing in the one ring. This would be a *real* PvP event, but with both sides welcome. Matches can be Horde/Horde, A/A, or H/A - no discriminating in the ring.
If anything, it could be the same nights as the RP market, and there could be vendors selling their wares outside the fighting area.

An update on the guild's situation, 3/29/2011:
The Captain was captured and imprisoned by Alliance forces for several months recently. During that time, a "trusted" high-ranking member of the Brigands was supposed to take charge, but he failed. Without leadership, the crew scattered to the wind. Upon returning to freedom, Lulika was disappointed to find she could not locate any of her old crew, most of whom she considered friends. She has begun building a new crew, but holds hope that her old comrades will return soon.
A howl echoes through the woods. You hear footsteps, then rustling. The footsteps get faster and louder and you try to run. When you think you're a moment away from death, a shadow appears.
Geneviere: 'Ello there.
Pardon the noise, my friends and I are recruiting!
Greetings everyone!
I am currently creating a guild for worgen only - any class!
It will be called <The Whitemane Pack> and we will set up dungeon runs daily.
I would also like to bring RP into the mixture, so please bring your most impressive skills! Much of it will be based on Gilnean lore and I believe this will help role-play as everyone will have one thing in common, aside from being a worgen. Your story is your own, you can have contracted the virus however way you want. I encourage creativity!
I will create a council of trusted members to vote on matters and I will also create a website.
If you are interested, please comment or meet me in game.
Sincerely, Geneviere Whitemane
Greetings viewers,
I am currently seeking a business partner in guild creation. My goal is to begin a guild that can provide excellent role-playing skills and to never leave anyone wandering the streets in search of RP!
Please meet with me in game if you are interested and I will interview you and see whether or not you are right for the job (I want to make sure you are not a griefer and that you are willing to comply and/or compromise with my requests). Upon employing you as my partner, we will devise a list of rules, regulations, benefits and pre-requisites that we will provide to members and most importantly we will decide on a name.
I would prefer that you meet the following criteria before meeting with me:
- You must be an active player. I consider active being online for at least 3 hours a week.
Submitted by Rashka on December 4, 2010 - 2:58pm Ok so I had this idea for an RP guild...but I'm not so sure its viable. An RP guild solely for the human nobility....rich people always have an organization where they gather and do things that rich people do. Only thing is...are there enough human RPers? and then are there enough nobles for that idea to be worth it?
My mage is lonely beinga snob by herself, lol. Just wondering how many humans are out there, and if this idea is any good at all.
Submitted by Dellisa on November 25, 2010 - 7:30am Hi all, thought it would be great if we had a thread going on bloopers or things that goes wrong in a RP session within WoW... so we can have a chuckle about it, like those bloopers in film and telvision...
To start off, I have a couple of really good ones:
Dell and Iloam talking about ATS and work in royal exchange:
Dell: " I'm sure work will pick up in Cata anyway."
Resounding silence.
Dell's Typist: "Errrrr..."
Dell's Typist: " I mean... " *fixes*
Dell: "I'm sure work will pick up in the next few weeks anyway."
And yesterday, RPing with Olathe and Tyi'Jin in Org...
Dell introduces Olathe to Tyi'Jin
Tyi'Jin and Olathe responds.
Olathe misclicks, hits Gamon. Olathe dies in middle of introductions.
Looking forwards to hearing any other bloopers!
Submitted by Tavlo on July 20, 2010 - 9:08am I have no connection to this event or the folks running it, but I spied it on WoW.com this morning and thought I'd at least put up a topic for folks at Haven, in case they are interested.
The <B.L.O.G.> RP group from WoW.com is having an event tonight in Coldridge Valley at 9PM ST and might be fun to check out and mingle with folks who may be new to the server. You can read more about it here: http://www.wow.com/2010/07/19/refugee-party-roleplay-server-maintenance-event/
I keep seeing more and more RP articles on Wow.com, which is great, and they're great articles, too. Swing by and say hello!

Submitted by Kharris on November 6, 2009 - 1:23pm Here we are! Start of Season two!
This is an OoC Topic near and dear to my heart. I'm a nosey girl, and I like to know what's going on with people, even if I don't have a chance to RP with them much.
Take note! There is one post for Alliance, one for Horde.
I tend to use Blogs to catch up with people, but not everyone is good about keeping their blogs "current" with the events of our characters! :gasp:
So I propose a cheat sheet: Post a reply here about what is going on *now* in your characters's lives. Nothing too fancy, just a paragraph or two, but enough to tell people what's up and tantalize us.
Post an update of your Hordies here! What's going on with them, what are they doing? what are they thinking?
Submitted by Bovianjoy on July 21, 2009 - 8:40am Hello fellow awesome people,
I've been thinking about bringing back Phails in the Undercity. I hear it's a Swiftstride tradition and well I'm all for that. Unfortunately, Bovianjoy's nose is strong so having it in Undercity every week or so might take a toll on his sense of smell. I'm thinking about hosting it in all the capital cities. I haven't picked the date yet because I do a bit of raiding with Swiftstride. I'm thinking Tuesday and Saturdays. I really wanted to have a weekday and a weekend. Each time Phials occurs, it'll be hosted in each major Horde city (in alphabetical order). I'll make postings and such well in advanced.
Submitted by Ineesa on June 1, 2009 - 8:49am From the "All the World's a Stage" roleplaying blog on WoW.com, an excellent article beginning a series about the layers of character development in RP. The first article here talks mainly about the surface layer, and what little hooks can be used to attract interest in our characters. Good stuff.
http://www.wow.com/2009/05/31/all-the-worlds-a-stage-the-surface-layer/
Industry had it’s own smell. It was pungent and tangible, the stench of labor and metal grinding against each other. It was hot, creating an acrid pocket of thick, heated air in the midst of a frozen mountain at the crown of the world.
Submitted by Sebastien on May 7, 2009 - 2:42pm As evinced by the popularity of the martial arts thread, viewing things from differing racial mindsets is a common thought among RPers here. So, as we play in a magical universe where it practically suffuses the air, the question turns to how each class that uses magic (be it the Light, Arcane magic, Nature magic, or Warlock magic) learns it, and how does one's race affect their learning?
Being the instigator of this topic, I go with my personal favorite first - Arcane magic!
Arcane magic harnesses some wild, powerful forces - elemental magic, explosive arcane power, it's equal parts electricity, dynamite and nuclear fusion for the World of Warcraft. In short, there's two major elements in how to use Arcane Magic - Dynamism, to have the audacity to channel primordial forces of the universe with one's will, and Control, to keep those same primordial forces from ripping you apart.

Submitted by Ineesa on May 5, 2009 - 9:10am So, by request and because I thought it was a good idea, I've set up two new forums for RP-Haven. These two forums are for in-character conversations, meetings, storylines - just about whatever you like, as long as it's RP!
Marty's Booty Bay Trading Post will be hosted by a world-wise goblin merchant (played by myself) for the sake of holding messages, arranging meetings, and so forth - the basics you might need an NPC for. The Trading Post is located in Booty Bay, on the lower docks, and both factions are, of course, welcome.
The second forum is for your own threads, whatever you'd like to start up.
Both forums will be watched by moderation for any altercations involving OOC insults or flaming, but I hope that doesn't go on there. If there are any issues in using the forums, please let me know.
Enjoy and viva le RP!
Submitted by Rigathriel on April 11, 2009 - 9:50pm Hello there! I play a Blood Elf on the horde side of SC called Telinesh.
With him, I am hoping to form a guild. I am wanting to form a rogue based roleplaying guild meant to be assassins, thieves adn undesireables. Basically the underbelly of society. Though, I have a few drawbacks : i lack enough creativity to do it entirely on my own. I am looking for a group of people willing to help me get said guild up and running. I can draw people in roleplaya nd ccome up wiht nice little twists and turns for plots and can create killer love triangles....

Submitted by Aiah on January 30, 2009 - 6:49am What kind of event do -you- want to see in game? Alliance or Horde? How frequently? Where and When?
Toss up your ideas! Feel free to answer one or all of the above points.
Submitted by Scartaris on December 28, 2008 - 7:05pm There are two types of plots in role-playing: individual plots and cooperative plots. Both may involve large numbers of role-players or perhaps only a handful of characters. Individual plots begin within one character's story. A character faces a challenge and through their role-play overcomes it. Some characters must face an old nemesis; some may simply be seeking a peaceful life during a time of war. The character moves through the plot as they role-play, sometimes bringing other characters into their storyline, which then effects the other characters. At times, individual plots can develop into cooperative plots, but for the most part the initial creator of the plot retains control over their story arc.
Submitted by Scartaris on December 28, 2008 - 7:03pm Characterization is the process of bringing a character to life. It is a complicated and subjective process, and most role-players have their own individual techniques. Some write deep backstories for their characters; others find their characters personality only through role-playing with others. Whatever the method, the most important aspect is developing a unique, interesting and inspiring personality for the character. To find a basic starting point for a new character, the following questions might help:
Submitted by Scartaris on October 20, 2008 - 7:30pm So you have a great idea and hold your own event? Awesome! There can never be too many, so plan and host away! It can, however, seem like a daunting task to organize and pull together an event but once you've got one under your belt it gets easier. When Sheva decided to host her own event, she followed a guide similar to this written by the lovely Saffiy and it helped immeasurably, as she hope it does for you:
Submitted by Scartaris on October 20, 2008 - 7:27pm One of the things that makes an RP server great are the opportunities to find a player run event where inevitably a collection of RPers gathers for socialization. RP events are one of the fastest and easiest ways to meet new characters, learn about ongoing story lines, get your own RP on, etc. It's also a great way for people new to the RP scene to get their feet wet and learn the ropes, so to speak.
Submitted by Scartaris on September 30, 2008 - 9:08pm Roleplaying (or "role-playing", or "role playing") is the art of being in-character, which means relating a character through your words, actions and presentation in-game. This includes speaking in-character, emoting gestures, and otherwise controlling your avatar so as to appear to be an actual character within the world. Roleplaying is tied to improvisational acting in the sense that one is constantly making it up as they go, and also tied to fiction writing in the creation of backstory for one's character. Roleplaying can be done alone while interacting with the game world, or in groups with other roleplayers in the creation of complex plots and storylines.
