Concept Art Workshop
Alrighty, I'm seeing a goodly amount of interest so I'm going to open the CAW group up for folks to sign up with. I figure the best way to do this is for folks to subscribe and then when they post their art, make sure you use the CAW tag at the bottom of the submit form. By joining up and posting your work, you're acknowledging a desire not only for praise but critique. We're all looking to improve, hopefully. Remember folks that critique is not criticism. If you've got a problem with a piece, make sure you can offer a solution to try. "This Sucks" is not helpful, nor supportive. Try to keep it polite and helpful. And have fun, for Elune's sake. Of Art and Fear: Two must-reads for inspiration and motivation.
... So first I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen this forum before. :x
But! I found it looking for a place to share this information, as it was an immense help and inspiration to me.
I think one of the biggest things we struggle with as growing artists is the motivation to continue to create when we're not "inspired", immediately followed by the feeling of inadequacies. No matter what we do, how much we draw or write, what ends up on the page is never quite what that sketch had in it's potential.
I learned this week that those two important things are not only what all of us as artists feel, it's a part of the process!
NOTE: This applies to both visual artists and writers. It's all art.

Doodle - Brothers at Rest
Decided to unpack my Wacom tablet and play around with my new CS4 tonight. Tried a bunch of old things I've never been good at: drawing directly from the wacom tablet, Trolls, clean lines. Tried some things that were totally new: odd perspective, watercolor brushes.
It's not awesome but its mostly just to get myself drawing again. Thought about cleaning up the coloring, but I kind of liked the bleeding watercolor effect. Still not as pretty as using a good old real pen and watercolor set. But meh. Gotta practice with this new fangled digital stuff!

I wanted to do a doodle of Iloam and Balla napping in the grass after a good day of fighting and wrestling with other Gurubashi Trolls. Inspired by this awesome set on Flickr of the Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling Championships in Turkey every year.
WIP - Melanim
This was a quick drawing done at the suggestion of Elex, while drawing in Opencanvas. :D It's very sketchy, and not really colored as of yet. Alas, my tablet quit working as I decided to color it, so this is what I did instead. I have to say though, I'm pretty pleased with it. Thanks for any comments, critique welcomed.
