Wrathgate perspective

Zaazas's picture

Having just this morning experienced the Wrathgate event from the Horde side, I just feel like the Alliance got the short end of the stick on this one. Im not going to say the shaft, because basically, the event is very similiar. It's just... There were 1 or 2 additional things present in the Horde perspective that weren't there for Alliance.

For example: (( This maybe a spoiler, so stop here ))

As the Horde move into the ruins, Lady Slyvannus starts to sing. It is that same song that plays if you return the necklace to her from the Ghostlands. It gives the fight in the ruins a... somber, sad, pulling at the heart strings, feel? Im not sure how to put it in words... it was just... a tear rimmed my eye upon hearing that score while waist deep in combat with rogue undead. It was epic and DEFINATELY way above the same spot Alliance side.

Also, horde side, 3 "bosses" to down compared to 2 on the alliance side. Now I get that the Horde are going in the front door and retaking their city whereas the Alliance are coming in the backdoor... but still, it just seemed more epic to have to retake the Ruins, Inner city and then the Royal quarter then to hit the Sewer then Putrid.

All that aside, what did you think about Wrathgate if you've done it from both perspectives? One better then the other? Indifferent? Would like to hear your thoughts.

 When I did Wrathgate

When I did Wrathgate A-side for the first time, a bunch of Ghost Scions did it together ICly. It was pretty epic as far as a phased event, something I'd never done in-game before.  I think the very opportunity to do it like that is a fantastic thing Blizz has put into the game.  We had it out with Varian and it was very cool for the whole group.

On the other hand, Artie did Wrathgate OOCly H-side, I hit the timing poorly and the event was almost over when I went into UC. I confess I didn't hear Sylvanas singing or see any extra bosses.  I was lost most of the time!  I basically ran through, got it done, and got my pants.

That said, I thought the mechanics of it were a bit distracting.  The super-powered, super-fast, big glowing flag on your back was unnecessary and took away from the IC involvement of the event.  At times I remember not knowing what was going on or being able to see anything.  I think I enjoyed porting around and watching the scenes before and after FAR more than the event itself, both times!

Oh if you ever take another

Oh if you ever take another Horde up to level, then definately take the time to wait for it to start instead of just plowing in.

I did both Alliance and Horde side Wrathgates alone. Kinda not anyone around to RP the event with when its done at 4ish AM.

Who all goes with Alliance,

Who all goes with Alliance, anyway?  Varian and Jaina?

I know that I was disappointed that Cairne didn't show up (though I guess someone has to actually manage the Horde while the others are fighting), and that Vol'jin stayed behind and commanded the siege.

EDIT:  Also do you guys leave the Apothecary to hit the Royal Chamber after beating Putress, or are you met by Horde NPCs there, like we are by Alliance after finishing Varimathras?

Spoilers Ahoy!

After Putress dies, we hear Thrall shout, and Varian goes charging off to the Royal Chamber to confront him, despite Jaina's protests. Then comes the scene where Varian tries to attack Thrall, and Jaina ice's and portals everyone.

I remember thinking that

I remember thinking that the Horde Wrathgate made Thrall look awesome, and highlighted the differences playing as each faction has on an event. I seem to recall Varian looking opportunistic and "dishonorable" from the perspective of the Horde, which puts into perspective Garrosh's opportunistic surprise attack in Icecrown.
