Character Theme Song Time
Just a little thing that I was thinking about today, as I was listening to my online radio station while working and coming up with stuff to write about my character. A song came up that I thought was a perfect theme song for her. I know a long time ago, back over a year ago I think, I brought up this same topic, but now it's been awhile and I'd like to see how some characters have changed their tunes, or see what some new characters have for theirs.
Please share them here, and include links to YouTube or some other online site that we can hear a sample of the music/song in question.
I'll start off with my own character:
Character: Mirien (high elf priestess)
Song: "Defying Gravity" by Kerry Ellis
Have fun!

Character: Methil G.
Character: Methil G. Icebane (Gnomish Death Knight)
Song: "Hurt" by Johnny Cash
Character: Balla Fasséké
Character: Balla Fasséké Kouyaté
Song: "Baro" by Habib Koité
Baro is a teasing song from West Africa about brothers who care about one another and as a result tease each other affectionately. Kouyaté has a mirthful heart and though he is Gurubashi, he's more inclined to tease than kill.

This one makes me wish the poster had included a translation of lyrics. But knowing what its about makes it very sweet.

The closest I can give you for a translation is from the album liner itself:
"Baro (the chat)
The 'Sanankuya' is a relationship kept between 'Sanankus', joking relations.
They provoke each other, argue, poke fun and sometimes even insult each other. But always as a laugh. This relationship is handed down from a sacred act of tolerance, gratitude and solidarity, established between the ancestors of several ethnic groups in Mali.
Through humor, the joking relations re-live this relationship which is now an inestimable element of harmony and social peace. "
Character: Ythgar
Character: Ythgar Vinguld
Song: "Waterfront" by David Sylvian
Ythgar is the most romantic of my characters in many respects, and while the lyrics hold a great deal of meaning for him, the hypnotic ambience of the song emblemizes how entrancing he can be to one unawary of his allure. At the same time, the mournful sense is very appropriate both for his slow acceptance of his life moving on, and the transitions he finds so difficult to accept.
Character: Mlakazar of Telaar
Song: "One of the Living" by Tina Turner
Mlakazar is a lot like Mad Max in a way; she believes that she's a remnant of a mostly destroyed world (which she is) and life is painted into absolutes for her as a result. She's always been Tina Turner in my mind's eye, without the warmth Tina so readily brings. With all the aggressive challenge, however.
Character: Aktarin Shadowsong
Song: "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits
Akkie's been fighting way, way too long. She's weary, and she's seen too many people die. This song for me utterly epitomizes that bone-deep exhaustion and the bonds she has with her warband. Aktarin's an old elf, and she feels old having lost her daughter to orcs, and her secure forests to everyone else.
Family man; His patience tried
Put a torch to his home and warmed his hands by the fire

Sir Thomas More: I think that when statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties, they lead their country by a short route to chaos.
When a man takes an oath, he's holding his own self in his own hands like water, and if he opens his fingers then, he needn't hope to find himself again.
Character: 'The Doctor'
Character: Tyrovar Melanim Flynt II
Song: "Peephole" cover by the Vitamin String Quartet, originally by System of a Down
EDIT: Why? I prefer instrumental music for Melanim, as he's a typically silent character who remains out of the limelight as much as possible. This (particular version of this) song is a mishmash of parts that sound regal with dark undertones, and sections where it sounds like they were going for something very pretty, but instead something about it is just not right. It's accurate to Melanim because he's very polite and generous, but perhaps has some darker motives. That ties in with the "just not right" comment, since while he's a skilled doctor and aids people regularly, he's also undead, and is subject to certain dark medical practices that appeal to many undead.

Something with a heavy
For me? Something with a heavy bassline, and an electric lute with a wah-wah pedal.
Don't look at me like that, you know gnomes invented all of the above. We invented this, these and these, after all.
Little creature, you are
Little creature, you are forgetting that your people are new-come to dance. My people have danced from the time Nyambe made us from the clay of the deep jungle. Your 'bass' is simply a retuned Skullsplitter kora with some electric device in it since your people do not have calabashes to amplify with.
When you can dance as well as a troll, then you can claim you invented these things, gnome.
True, I confess that I
True, I confess that I can't dance as well as a troll. I can do some things infinitely better, though ... largely because I have no tusks to get in the way.
Only one who cannot
Only one who cannot appreciate where a sharp tusk enters into certain activities would speak thus. You little tuskless people do not know what you miss. *toothy grin*
Character: Cerwis
Character: Cerwis F'Sharri
Song: Maybe This Time cover by Kristin Chenoweth
Why?: Cerwis finally, at this point in her life, has a man she wants to stick around.
Charaucter: Reginald Goldengale
Song: Guardian Angel by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Why?: Reggie is very protective of all of the women in his life, and tries his hardest to keep them content.
Character: Vanavywn Goldengale
Song: Ulysses by Franz Ferdinand
Why?: This song is all about the ride. The drugs, the life, and making your own way.
Character: Raksasha
Song: Marvelous Things by Eisley
Why?: It's incredibly nonsensical, and Raksasha doesn't process thought like a normal Draenei.
Character: Nediva Palti
Song: Three Wishes by The Pierces
Why?: The smooth pacing and the way the lyrics are sung *to* someone rather than *about* someone. Nediva would be granting the wishes for people rather than for herself.

(( Notwithstanding the
(( Notwithstanding the silly response for Diana, I generally don't think much about character "theme songs", though I do tend to listen to certain styles of music depending on the character I'm playing at the time. If it counts, though, the following song makes me think of Lisa:
Electric Light Orchestra - The Way Life's Meant to Be
The lyrics work well for someone who's led a sheltered life, walking around the streets of Stormwind and being thoroughly baffled by everything she encounters. Yet there are some lines about valuing company of others ("Just to see your face instead of this place/Now I know what you mean to me"), so it's not an entirely depressing song, and rather captures the spirit of what drove her to create the Commonwealth guild with her friends. ))
Character: Theryl
Character: Theryl Miller-Duskwind
Song: Do You Love an Apple?
A love song with a bit of a bite to it; rather appropriate for what's going on in Theryl's life right now.
Character: Theraesia von Haller
Song: Twa Corbies - Version 1 or Version 2
Two ravens discuss the slain knight who's about to become their next meal. Knowing Theraesia, she's probably the one who killed him.
Character: Belmilia Carrington-Howell
Song: Bad Moon Rising
Bel is pretty much just bad news.

And for anie displeasure, that they apprehend to be done unto them by their neighbours, they tak up a plaine feid against him,

Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.

Character: Euphadora
Character: Euphadora Gildelily
Song: Jewel - Hands
-- Euphadora has this song because it not only is how I imagine her voice to be, but also because the gentle optimism that is portrayed in the lyrics.
"My hands are small, I know, but they are not yours, they are my own. No they are not yours, they are my own and I am never broken..."
Character: Lady Faetrix Severidan
Songs: Pink - U+Ur Hand ; Pink - Sober ; Pink - So What
-- Faetrix, after a long drunken stint on Moon Guard, has come out of hiding on Shadow Council. She struggles daily with her demons of her and her family's making. She is self-destructive, but wants to recover, and the song "Sober" by Pink really is like listening to the exiled noble heiress thinking out loud. Faetrix has a lot of sides to her, however, and the song that represents Fae's smug, arrogant posturing is "U+Ur Hand" and "So What" by Pink. As an artist, Pink really embodies the full spectrum of Faetrix's wild-child ways. Not to mention that, again, the singer's slightly gritty voice is how I envisioned Fae's voice.

Tuireadh nan Hirteach (the Lament of the St Kildans)
This suits Tywyll as no matter what happens to her in life, there's an endless ache in her heart for the loss of her family and their shared history.
(St Kilda is an archipelago off Scotland, very isolated, that had people living there for around 2000 years. In 1930 the last native residents left forever, and the link was severed. What remained of the St Kildan people resettled elsewhere and gradually lost their cutural uniqueness......as one writer noted "Meanwhile the dear green island of Hirt lies empty in the midst of the ocean: the birds still sing but no bell rings in the cold church, Gaelic is no longer heard, and the graves of the St Kildans’ ancestors are lonely and unattended." This reminded me of Tywyll and the abandoned farm and graves of her only family, and how she feels about their loss. )

However, in the event of songs with videos attached, you may freely disregard the videos. They were chosen primarily for sound quality.
Similarly, these do not necessarily describe the entirety of a character's life, story, or history, but rather where they are right now. They're also not the only songs I associate with these characters.

Destroy all dreams, Illusions damned in fire,
A hellish need for power, Is my dark desire,
Fresh blood streams from those who are dying,
I put an end to their misery,
Always chasing never creating,
It is in their nature to obey,
Molested bodies chopped by axes,
Drained corpses stripped of flesh,
Blood-coloured water swallowing men,
A sight of horror, A monument of hell,
The women bury and mourn their men,
A state of sorrow a pain that will not mend,
I increase their sorrow as I rape their seed,
I put them to sleep if they disagree,
I burn and slay until you obey,
I rape and destroy your legacy

I also have a difficult time settling on a song for my main. Right now, Rethelia might be somewhere around Virgin State of Mind, K's Choice mostly for sense of off-kilter isolation and the lyrics about burning mazes. Rethelia's view of her childhood changes, but it is always a large part of her conception or filtering of the present. This lullaby resonates with her memory of it now: Vökuró, Björk -Lyrics and super bad translation here.
Back in the "A different kind of theme thread," Karamazov suggested Moscow Nights. Though the video he posted is now off the internet (which is a pity, because its quiet sensitivity was better for Rethelia than what I've found since), here are the English lyrics , and another rendition of it from about 0:30- 2:00.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies—God damn it, you've got to be kind."

"Wicked Fascinations", song
"Wicked Fascinations", song by Circus Contraption. This (blurry) performance is by Columbia Alternacirque, however. Good idea of flavor of slightly dark, old school traveling carnival/burlesque/medicine show.
"The Carny of Mr. Dark" by Deathwatch Beetle Repairmen. Song was based on the character of Mr. Dark in Ray Bradberry's "Something Wicked This Way Comes", and dark carnival proprietor who also is an Illustrated Man, and was based on Bradberry's childhood experiences with a traveling carnival troupe.
"Mr. Soot's Black Book" by The Unextraordinary Gentleme, a song about a mysterious 'Mr. Soot' who has a traveling parade of dancing girls, and who keeps a log who who owes him what for their dalliances. :P

Got gallies on
Gone trolling for bit o’ fun
Under the bridge where they keep the real ladies!
Her name was Christina
Strumpet by trade
A character in Mister Soot’s Traveling Parade
It’s really quite handsome
It’s never a tiresome night when the petticoats twirl
It’s never a dull scene when his girls emerge
From the steam in their carnival colors
The calliope song
Goes rolling for far too far
Under the bridge where they don’t know for daylight
The trollops go by and
String up passersby
No mercy for debtors in Mister Soot’s black book la-la-la
It’s almost like magic
It treats for the tricks
Under the bridge where the wonders reside
Come give them a go but leave when you’re told
No horses for beggars in Mister Soot’s book
But it’s really fantastic
It’s rarely so tragic when a boy or a girl buys a girl
It’s never a washout with nine pairs of tits out
From the steam
Here they come in their carnival colors, come on!
And not a song, but visually, lyrically, et al, sort of a background piece for Mr. Blackcinder: Carnivale Opening.

Bury all your secrets in my skin
Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins
The air around me still feels like a cage
And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again
So if you love me let me go
And run away before I know
My heart is just too dark to care
I can?t destroy what isn?t there
Deliver me into my fate
If I?m alone I cannot hate
I don?t deserve to have you
Ooh, my smile was taken long ago
If I can change I hope I never know
I still press your letters to my lips
And cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss
I couldn?t face a life without your lights
But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight
So save your breath, I will not care
I think I made it very clear
You couldn?t hate enough to love
Is that supposed to be enough?
I only wish you weren?t my friend
Then I could hurt you in the end
I never claimed to be a saint
Ooh, my own was banished long ago
It took the death of hope to let you go
So break yourself against my stones
And spit your pity in my soul
You never needed any help
You sold me out to save yourself
And I won?t listen to your shame
You ran away, you?re all the same
Angels lie to keep control
Ooh, my love was punished long ago
If you still care don?t ever let me know
If you still care don?t ever let me know
