White Hart Update
Hello All!
It came to my attention yesterday that although nobody has come forward to me, the grapevine tells me that some patrons of the White Hart are frustrated with the no fighting rule that is currently in place at White Hart.
I would like to address this issue, open it up to discussion/concerns, and also hopefully address my own concerns with escalating violence at White Hart. Please give it a read if youre a regular, a newbie, or thinking of joining us :)
Q. Why can't we fight in the White Hart?
A. I created the White Hart as a cross-faction, neutral territory environment where all races are permitted to come and roleplay in a peaceful location. This includes Horde, Alliance, Neutral races, and even "monsters" so long as they are well behaved. We've yet to see a Drunken Yeti bard walk through the door, but here's hoping ;) In any case, the White Hart is meant to be a light hearted, fun, and communal place where everyone can enjoy themselves without any grief.
I am not intending to "godmode" your plot lines or prevent you from roleplaying out what you wish to accomplish. If you absolutely MUST have a violent encounter, you are ICly permitted to anything you'd like so long as its a 20 foot perimeter from the actual tavern and lodge. OOCly speaking, this means you can enter the chatroom: WhiteHartTavern_Outside and duke it out like cranky Kodos all you want.
Q. What happens if we fight inside the White Hart?
A. The White Hart has ancient, formidable Dryad magics protecting the tavern, lodge, and surrounding area by 20 feet. The magics will "zap" any PC that attempts to harm another PC. This means they will not go off if you give someone a friendly arm punch, but they will go off if you punch them in the arm with the intent to hurt the other person. If zapped, a loud crack like thunder will sound through the room, a burst of green light will go off around your character's head, you will be blinded for approx. 10 minutes, and a very sharp migraine will accompany the blindess.
OOCly speaking, if you do not RP these effects and continue to fight, I will follow the following protocol:
1) I will enter the room as "White Hart Magics" and DM/GM the effects for you.
2) If you still ignore them, I will send you a tell and ask you to RP these effects, as they are in accordance with the room rules.
3) If you still ignore them and do not answer my tell, I will be forced to remove and ban you from the room for the remainder of the evening.
Q. My character is level 70 and in full epic gear. I am stronger than the magics.
A. No, you aren't. Unfortunately, although you may consider it cheating/godmoding, in order to maintain a peaceful environment at White Hart, nobody can be "stronger" than the magics. This is so the magics maintain their peacekeeping abilities.
Q. The effects of the magics are really annoying. Can't you take away some of them?
A. No. The magics are annoying on purpose. They are created to discourage fighting amongst PCs, both ICly and OOCly. The effects are also purposefully intended to debihilitate your PC so that they cannot function enough to continue fighting and cause further disruption to other guests.
Please remember that these outbursts are disruptive, cause text/emote scroll, compromise the attention of all guests, and can also be intimidating, discouraging, or unwelcome to newcomers. Again, this doesn't mean you CAN'T... just take it outside.
Q. I want to create a custom case where I can change or bend the effects of the magic. Should I ask first? Who should I ask?
A. Creativity is highly encouraged, but definitely ask first. Send me a tell and let me know what you would like to do. If you have a counter spell, a device, an enchanted item, or an action/act that you'd like to perform but aren't sure if it would set off the magics, don't be afraid to ask me! The worst I can do is say no ;-) Send me a tell on Lox if he is there, or Iloam.
I hope this was helpful to everyone. If anyone has further questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to leave a comment here.

Hmm. I am thinking that last one is pointed in my general direction.
Maybe I have underestimated how disruptive and/or violent people would be without such measures in place.
Well, Figli's contraption is gnome technology. Whether it actually works or not, and how well, I leave up to you. I just thought it would be fun to tinker around with it and see what would happen.

Not in a bad way. We'd simpy
Not in a bad way. We'd simpy never had anyone attempt to tinker with them before. I actually really liked the idea, as people floating around in bubbles is funny, and who doesn't love dancing Yetis? :) But perhaps it would have been better to ask me first so we could have worked out exactly what the conditions of the machine vs. the actual magics were, and what the machine's effects were. There ended up being some confusion since we hadn't worked it out. So, lesson learned :)
In the future we, or anyone who wants to do something similar, can work it out with me and we'll make an OOC announcement to the room so people can RP with it.
Definitely don't stop coming up with fun ideas, though :) Thats not the intention here.
Q. The magics look like
Q. The magics look like fun.
A. I will fight as often as possible to have my character stumble around blind before faceplanting on the floor.
*wonders if the magicks can
*wonders if the magicks can spot passive agression... baits Hakka to check* ;)
((I for one fully support
((I for one fully support the magics in place. It's a rare occurrence for me to be able to play Aktarin and RP with her enemies; outside the tavern, she would simply kill everyone if she could without discussion. Having the effects in place [ for her, the fact that it's dryad magic is enough, and the Grovekeeper RP was more than sufficient to keep the peace there] is an excellent excuse to be able to explore how a xenophobe would react to outsiders who happen to be in her territory. That's a wonderful thing RPly, and I'd hate the magics to be limited in any way, because right now hey're a beautiful excuse for my more extreme characters to actually RP))
