The Shadow Council Twitter Project
This is a great way to get yourself into that RP mind-set! Even if you've never blogged a day in your life, your character has thoughts throughout their day! Let us know where "you" are in the world - sights, smells, people, beasties, etc - and what you're up to. All tweets MUST be in-character (IC)! Invite your friends! Great from everyone from the most seasoned, hardcore role-player to the casual player who just likes to emote outside the auction house.
Network and meet people from your server! Just leave a comment here with the URL of your twitter account so we can follow you and get to know your character. If you pass the news of the ShC Twitter Project along, please link back to THIS POST so that we can keep a master list.

I didn't want to clutter up the graphic with a bunch of information* since its really just about having fun and getting into an RP mindset...
..but, that doesn't mean I didn't think about it cause Im fairly obsessive :) In my mind, your comment is pretty much exactly my thought! These are little goblin devices that transmit for us. A mixture of magic and technology, since they have interplanatary range and can also auto-translate any language :) Sort of like little magical Blackberries, heheh (though far less expensive!). I think to keep the "fun" vibe around it, they'd be considered more of a toy or novelty than a status symbol, though.
*plus I also didn't want to bother with the whole "where does this fit with the LORE!?" and "OMG you are detracting from the purity of the GAME!1I1!!" and "This is what ruins RP/causes cliques/destroys our server/makes my brain melt and why nobody likes me!" crowd. If they don't like it, they don't have to use it :)

On the other hand, I felt that this was really just a way of quick thought blogging so that we can get into the mindset of RP, not for people to RP across the world of Azeroth and such. And besides, there are a lot of things that people would not get to know about characters, like that Rya is in Thunderbluff or that Dimetri is gay and such. >.> but that is just me. ]

((I think it's whatevery ou make of it. :shrug: I won't be using it as hard-and-fast RP, but more a tool to get in my character's head. Some RP is liekly to come of it, and be part of my character's story, but I'm not going to get all worried about things.
Maybe it's like an open-channel radio/chatroom/whatnot. :shrug: I'm just going to use it for fun times, because I like fun times and I see it as a way to branch out some.))

Thats it exactly :) It's a really open, "make it what you want to make it" project. If for it to be fun for you means you have to justify "how" this is being done, then do that. If you're perfectly happy to just tweet whatever junk is floating through your character's head, then do that. Whatever :) Just relax, have fun with it.
I actually hatched the idea while brushing my teeth and feeling frustrated that I am really struggling with the characterization of my new alt. I was musing that she only speaks to me in little sentences, "like on twitter." All the sudden a lightbulb went off! So thats all the depth and complexity of the original idea, for anyone who is curious ;)
So for one of my characters, I'm using it very much as a casual RP exercise to try and get into an alt's head and flesh out her character. For my main, I know him pretty inside and out and its more of a 'hard-and-fast' RP (to borrow from Kharris) tool that lets me goof around with friends and meeting new people.

((PERSONAL CONVENTION FOLLOWING: If my posts are @ someone (ie:@Iloam) then it's "out loud", if there's no @, likely it's just Kharris thinking to herself. Doesn't mean people can't necessarily reply, but means I wasn't necessarily intending it to be "out loud" and more a "get in my character's head" moment. Examples:

I have to say
((I think this is working great. It's actually the first use of Twitter by people (as opposed to, say, the USGS bot that tell me when there is an earthquake near) that doesn't seem completely silly.
I especially like that it works out being about roleplay, instead of RP. There is a place for both, but I have little interest in the latter and it's far more common on the server.
I've complained elsewhere about the lack of ambient social information in MMOs; I love that this attempts to provide that while discouraging conversation, which brings down the ambiant information load on channels (not that channels are bad--they're great for conversation).
My personal convention--Frie pretty much says what he's thinking anyway, so if you see it on twitter, it's public enough.))
