Lirriel's picture

I'm pretty sure we've had a

I'm pretty sure we've had a similar thread to this before, but darned if I can find it now. Eh well, here come my kids. For most of the book/movie/tv/game/music answers, I went with genres more than specifics, with examples of the type more than anything.

Lirriel: The girly religious homemaker.
1. Fashion style: Frilly little tops, long flowing skirts, dresses, the occasional cute capris or flattering jeans; very girly, though staying away from popular trends and logos, a lot of it hand-made or altered. Flats, pumps, and simple walking sneakers, sandals. For work she might do that stereotypical librarian/teacher look. You know the one.

2. Favorite tv show(s): Heartwarming family drama genre; things like 7th Heaven, Little House on the Prairie, etc. Lifetime Channel would be her guilty pleasure. Cooking channel and other self-how-to programs for non-fiction.

3. Favorite movie(s): Romantic classics, and kids movies. Would love the AMC channel.

4. Favorite music genre(s):
Classical, Religious hymnals and modern songs that cross genres.

5. Favorite food(s): Home baked pastries, chocolate.

6. Favorite book(s): Religious discussion, medical texts, cooking, and sewing books for non-fiction. Classic (Jane Austen) and modern day (Danielle Steele) romances for the fiction.

7. Favorite game(s):
Traditional board and boxed games people break out at parties and other friendly get togethers. She'd be a backseat gamer when it came to consoles. Might play something like Bejeweled on the computer.

8. Five most treasured posessions:
Heirloom Family Bible, Well-used and overstuffed Dayplanner, her well-stocked and ready-to-cook-Anything kitchen, cellphone, a clock built by her grandfather as a gift for his wife when they first married.

9. What city would they live in: Somewhere smaller and fairly quiet, outside a larger city.

10. What type of abode would they have: A simple, sweet little cottage with enough yard space for gardening and pets, maybe a small barn and paddock for a horse or two, with someone paid to come in and help care for them daily due to her busy schedule.

Alynore: Mature for her age, military for life.
1. Fashion style: If not in school/military uniform, jeans, tshirts, sweatshirts, combat boots or sports sneakers, military PT uniform for working out, sports bras. Nothing fancy or revealing. One or two nice, simple semi-formal dresses for when she's gotta.

2. Favorite tv show(s): History Channel, Discovery Channel, mechanics shows like Trick my Truck etc, and the reimaged Battlestar Galactica series.

3. Favorite movie(s): Military drama/action films. Some science fiction, like the new Star Trek flick, and some of the superhero comics movies.

4. Favorite music genre(s):
Rock, classic and modern.

5. Favorite food(s): Baby carrots and celery sticks for snacking. Mama's macaroni salad recipe. Italian cuisine.

6. Favorite book(s): Historical texts, and historical fiction. Religious discussion. Old school science fiction, particularly of a military bent. Fond of Heinlein, and Elizabeth Moon.

9. What city would they live in: Where ever she ends up stationed, as either a military mechanic or chaplain.

10. What type of abode would they have: Barracks room, kept fairly neat and spartan if full of her books, gadgets, and tools. Otherwise, a kitted out garage with small and simple living accomodations off to the side.

Daevra: Fangirl teen, not sure what to do with her life yet but having fun in the meantime.
1. Fashion style: Trendy, tight little outfits that show off her curves, influenced by the current teen/early-20's stars. Sandals and strappy heels. Bright and light colors to contrast her dark skin.

2. Favorite tv show(s): Teen drama, Reality programs, Anime.

3. Favorite movie(s):
Chick Flicks, Anime.

4. Favorite music genre(s):
Pop, J-Pop

5. Favorite food(s):
Sushi of almost any variety, other Japanese dishes, as well as Chinese and Korean.

6. Favorite book(s):
Shounen-ai manga, romance novels.

7. Favorite game(s):

8. Five most treasured posessions: Family portrait, locked diary, jewelery craft kit, manga collection, shoebox full of stuff pertaining to that guy she has a huge crush on.

10. What type of abode would they have: Dae's room would be decked out in popular movie, pop star and anime posters; a few pretty wall scrolls; and other anime/Japanese art and trinkets.

6. Favorite book(s):
Will read just about anything except girly romance books.

7. Favorite game(s):
Card games are about the extent.

8. Five most treasured posessions: Well-used fishing pole, family portrait, Intelligence Star award he won't/can't discuss, his father's old pocket watch, a complete hardbound set of the Oxford English Dictionary.

9. What city would they live in:
Quiet town in Midwest with good fishing nearby.

10. What type of abode would they have:
Small, unassuming ranch style full of books and fishing paraphenalia. He'd still have most of his movies on VHS, resisting the move to DVD or Blu-Ray as long as possible. Wouldn't have a home computer either, and grudgingly got a cellphone once they became ubiquitous (though still has a home phone line).

Fashion Style: Jasper would

Fashion Style: Jasper would likely dress in tailored cotton or seersucker suits in lighter colors like khaki, creme, or stark white. If he felt the vibe, he might even try to get away with a light blue blazer. He'd eschew suspenders in favor of vests and would insist that bowties are appropriate for every occasion. The iconic Jasper fashion image would involve a cotton blazer trailing from his hand and his shirt unbuttoned a quarter of the way down with no shoes and his pants rolled up a little past his ankles. Panama hat. Expensive cufflinks in the shape of something dorky, like rocking horses. Very "victorian gentleman in the countryside."

8. ... five most treasured posessions? His Sunsilver signet ring, his journal, a gold-handled dagger from China, First Edition copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, Ipod

1. ... fashion style? Dirty

1. ... fashion style? Dirty hippie neo-Buddhist; only not so completely dirty. Loose, natural-fiber clothes, sandals, eschewing a shirt when possible. Completely blown-out workout clothes when he’s lifting.
2. ... favorite tv show(s)? Doesn’t watch too much; the occasional “ultimate fighting” event, or mish-mash of team and solo sports.
3. ... favorite movie(s)? He’s a sucker for nature documentaries like the Planet Earth series, and has a fondness for those sports-team-triumphs-over-difficulty-to-reach-victory movies. Like TV, he doesn’t watch many movies, and so a lot of his intake of film would be dependent on what his friends dragged him to see.
4. ... favorite music genre(s) or band(s)? He’d be all over trance-y world music as well as Boston, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, and a mish-mash of others.
5. ... favorite food(s)? Curries, Thai, Cajun cuisine, Ethiopian – anything with enough spice to make him see through time and space.
6. ... favorite book(s)? Life of Pi, philosophy and theological texts.
7. ... favorite game(s)? Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, football, rugby.
8. ... five most treasured possessions? His collection of free weights, the knick-knacks and statues that make up a little shrine, a shoebox of letters from his ex, his bicycle, and his well-seasoned Cephalon wok.
9. What city would they live in? Probably someplace like Aspen, Colorado. Or San Diego.
10. What type of abode would they have? An incredibly spare studio apartment; definitely a “guy” place with little-to-no décor.

Daaaaamn, if he was real I'd be after him myself  :)  To hang out with at the pub for pints and hot meals and long conversations on winter afternoons, if nothing else.

Don't run! It's only ham!

Firie

Well this is one that takes a little thought.  What would Firie be like in a more modern setting...

1. ... fashion style?  Uh-oh.  Clothing.  Hm.  Fi`'s current clothing is almost completely dictated by what she does.  Battle gear, ceremonial gear, apprentice's garb, appearance of station..  So, in a modern setting, her clothing would be similarly dictated by occupation.  Not that she'd have much regard for it in that sense, either.  I can well see her in an expensive, well-tailored power suit or business skirt, suitable for speaking at a political conference or science convention, and be sacked out face-down on a table at a bar somewhere.

2. ... favorite tv show(s)?  Fi` would be -all- over anime.  Most sorts.  Giant robots, power fights..  a particularly strong showing for Bleach and Trigun.

3. ... favorite movie(s)?  Indiana Jones trilogy, especially Last Crusade.  She'd be -thrilled- at the fight on top of the tank.

4. ... favorite music genre(s) or band(s)?  Metal and punk.  If it's slow, quiet, or sleepy, she doesn't want to hear it.

5. ... favorite food(s)?  Thai curry.  This requires no explanation.

6. ... favorite book(s)?  Fi` is so very much not a 'sit still' person.  She'd only be interested in a book if it could -really- grab her attention and hold it.  Graphic novels especially - she'd love Sandman.

7. ... favorite game(s)?  Any drinking game.  Or all of them.  Plus hockey, if that's not redundant.

8. ... five most treasured posessions?  Five?  Ergh.  Fi`'s not a very material person.  Um.  I can't get this one.  She'd only attach significance to an object due to an outside factor, method of acquisition, or some other reason.  .. though I can see her really being happy with some kind of classic muscle car.  1966 Pontiac GTO or Chevrolet Chevelle.

9. What city would they live in?  Either Denver, Colorado, or Washington DC.

10. What type of abode would they have?  Hole in the wall apartment, probably a studio.  It wouldn't be very neat.

Heulwen's picture

This is actually quite hard

This is actually quite hard for my head.  Heulwen is so much of another world/norms of that world it's difficult to imagine her in ours.  Still!

1. Fashion Style  No one thing.  Wherever she was, she would attempt to blend in.  Always with comfortable shoes and loose clothing, though.

2. Favourite TV Shows  The news.  The weather.  Any high-level competitive combat (Boxing, UFC, Muay Thai, Judo etc etc) for its educational value

3. Favourite Movies  I don't think she'd enjoy movies, they're not real so she'd find them pointless

4. Favourite music/bands Probably wouldn't care about music at all either

5. Favourite food Nutritious but bland foods.  Anything that doesn't leave scent on you or give you gas etc  :)

6. Favourite books Any non-fiction that is educational.  Anything with tactics, techniques, data.

7. Favourite game Games? Surely you jest  ;)  She'd hate games.  Pointless rubbish.

8. Five most treasured possessions Not so much 'treasured' as 'useful'.  Weapons and tools of various kinds.  Nothing that can't be replaced, though, nothing 'personal'.

9. What city  The anonymity of Dubai if anywhere, but more likely on the move, a few months here, there.

10. What type of abode Any type, as long as the approaches are relatively secure/able to be monitored, and there are several options for a hasty exit
