Roleplayer Coalition For Raids!
http://covenant-shc.wowstead.com
Hey, folks! Adaelus/Greenswitch/Dresmiir/Xhemisai here. Some of you may know me, some may not. I'll be honest, I am absolutely horrid at making posts to Haven, but I do read those of others! But let me get to the point here: raiding. Yep, raiding. I'm not talking progression, 25man hardmode bustyernuts raiding. I am talking (typing?) about casual, laid back RP raids on a 10man scale, possibly 25man. Places like Naxxramas (for new toons maybe), Ulduar, Trial of the Crusader, and Icecrown Citadel, all done with roleplay. Heck, even some old school raids such as MC, AQ, ZG (can be solo'd now D:) and BC raids like BT, SSC, etc.
Many of us just want to RP, and that's great. But there are plenty of us who want to do both, but do not want to join a raiding guild or subject ourselves to PuGs that inevitably fail (most times) and end with drama. Enter Covenant, a guild set up as a foundation for bringing the fight to the bad guys of our world (and Draenor). Not asking for others to join the guild in any way other than by showing up, nothing else is required except that you do your part. In other words you are told by a friend, or recruited on the street, to come and help take care of a situation at the Argent Tournament. You arrive and are informed that you have a choice to make; you can join this Covenant of adventurers and commonfolk (and get some purps) or you can go on your way and forget everything. You choose to join them, and in doing so you join the raid group, however you remain in your own guild, are treated with importance, and have a chance to RP out some raids!
This idea is not a new one, it's quite old and has gone off without a hitch before. Only the times it did it tended to end horribly... Perhaps we can make it different! Perhaps we can succeed! I've already got quite a few people interested in such an endeavor, and we're willing to make it work if you are. So please, stop by the site, leave some feedback here, or hit me up in game! Though I do prefer to be contacted outside of game, so I can formulate my responses accordingly. ^_~
The link to the site is above, the forum used for the coalition is titled "Those Meddling Kids".

+1 for mediocre warrior dps
+1 for mediocre warrior dps and potential offtank. As I play on dial-up vent is no-no and I haven't really tested if I can still do 25 mans or not. Beyond this, YES PLEASE.
Will there be gear requirements?
This is a horrible idea.
This is a horrible idea. You should stay away, it's doomed to failure. I mean, they let Teng tag along. Noob mistake right there.

It's true. I took that Teng guy to Naxx40 one time and the drunk bastard ran into the four horsemen while babbling about not knowing where he was or what he was doing.
I'd be interested, my guild
I'd be interested, my guild has progressed to the point where my t9 gear isn't good enough to tag along on raid nights, and I've yet to fully complete Naxx and other 10-mans. It's been a while since I've gotten to RP with Neuny anyway :D
As someone who's attempted
As someone who's attempted this Alliance side and had some success, let me make a few points.
Most people don't want to do old content. Even RPers will get tired of running old raids and most won't want to RP-walk through them (that would take houuuuuuuuuuurs).
I tried to set up an Alliance RP group dedicated to casual raiding and doing oldschool instances with RP...while that failed, I did end up creating The Ghost Scions, the baddest motherfuckin' RPers ever.
As someone who's raided with Archetype X back at the height of their power, raided with a 40-man RPer group and other stuff, I might have more advice, stories, etc that may help if you're at all interested.

I think you'd have some
I think you'd have some people interested in at least running old content for the achievements and shots at mounts, but I agree with walk-through rping them...they were all rather large and it would take far too much time. It's still an idea to set up a quick run through of some of them though.
The only character who ever
The only character who ever walked was Gaark. Because he was an old, ugly dude. I really enjoyed ICly raiding because I always had something to do while we were recovering from a wipe or buffing. Me and Satyra used to stand around yelling at each other.
Personally I'm a fuddy-duddy about old content. I'm not much interested in it. And I bet I'd lag out in 40 mans these days, as much as I'd like to see AQ40.
You don't need 40 people to
You don't need 40 people to do those raids. We did AQ with at least 10-15, so we could manage the Twin Emperors (they are still a pain). Usually we'd have around 20-25 at most.
MC? Can be 5-manned. Heck, pallies and druids can solo it.
Which is why we have a decent success rate on our old school raids; fewer folks vying for items, less lag, a lot of space to -see- things, and it goes really fast if you do take a few more folks (we generally do 10 for MC if we can to keep it under an hour).
The nice thing is we can really focus on the RP while still keeping the runs themselves quick, due to the Wrath level stuff really overpowering the old content. And there isn't really the fear of turning anyone away, cuz it's going to be -very- unusual to fill all 40 slots, or even 20 for AQ20 and ZG (which can definitely be duo'd to 5 manned, solo'd depending on class/gear).

Interestingly enough, I
Interestingly enough, I have done RP runs of old school raids quite a bit. While there aren't a lot of people who are willing to do it, there are plenty more who jump at the chance for RP, no matter what it is. And I don't know about you guys, but I love seeing the old content time and time again (only this time without somebody yelling in my hear about DKP).
Thank you for the input though! It's nice to see that people who've attempted this sort of thing are still around! And if you've got wisdom to share, please PLEASE do!

The trouble with that is
The trouble with that is that one someone gets what they want from an oldschool instance, they tend to lose all interest in them.
I'm not trying to be a party-pooper, but keeping up interest for oldschool raids, or even older WotLK raids is hard.

I think one-off
I think one-off old-school RP-Raid events could be neat. An expedition into AQ or ZG or ZA, a "we need to go clear-out Naxxramas!" night, that kind of thing. With so many people geared these days it could be a fun thing, but more a one-off event rather than a regular schedule.
Just make sure that if you say it's an RP excursion, it actually is, and not just wooshing through as fast as possible while one or two people say one or two things while looting the kabillion mobs. >..>
Secondly, plleeeeaaaase make sure you are very very clear about the nature of your runs, how people get in them, whether or not there are regular raiders, whether or not there is some kind of lottery system for slots, so on and so forth. It *will* get dicey. Cliques will form. People who show up every week will want their raid night. Just... be prepared and know how you're going to explain a lot of things to a lot of people, or have a very rigid system in place to make it fair for everyone who wants to go. I don't mean to like, lecture there but it's something I'm often tearing my hair out about.
THAT SAID, I think it's a *fantastic* idea, I love that you've already got forums and stuff up, and I'm glad to see someone taking this on Hordeside! I wish you all the best luck with it! If anyone finds anything awesome in those RP raids, please report it to the UofK!

We've been regularly
We've been regularly running Molten Core for about a year now on Tuesday evenings, since there's -so- much stuff to try and get from there, for various toons; reputation, legendaries, tier sets, rare looking weapon and armor models, etc. And while we don't slow down too awful much, we do it with the understanding that it is IC, so /say, /yell, and /me are all IC actions and speech. We do pause a few times for RP convos as called for. And it all falls into the Elementium Knights idea. We did the same thing with AQ40 briefly (given the content there, we still needed a large group for it, so not all were RPers--or capable of following directions...).
It -can- be done, though I suggest changing up the places you go for old school content to keep it fresh and interesting and for people to keep coming back. Advertise, advertise, advertise, here with posts and calendar events, and if you think you can, the realm forums. Don't expect -heavy- RP in the instances; but lighter, more casual stuff, or some smaller scene stuff. Just be sure to warn folks to Pause for RP rather than keep pulling.
It is harder to keep interest when folks get their rep, or gear, or mount, or whatever. The achievements possible in the Wrath instances though can take a few tries to get. Drop rates can fight against you. The roster will likely change up as the dreaded Real Life takes its toll as well. But if you get a small core group of dedicated folks who just like playing together even if it's old content they've run a zillion times already, and keep fighting to advertise and offer spots (there's always someone needing an old raid full cleared for some reason or another in General and Trade, and are usually OK so long as the rules are made clear to start), then the Old School raiding and lighter fun stuff can last a long while.
Feel free to check out the "Elementium Knights" tags here on Haven, somewhere we have info posted on how we handle our old school raiding, which I think has overall been pretty successful for getting people good RP stuff and some storylines (like the Sliptongue Virus) out there.
Good luck!

I think this is a great idea too and I'd be totally in if the need for roguey DPS arose. I'm sure I can scrounge up a reason for Jasper to want to raid. He's a chanced elf, he is. As a player who only started post-WotLK, I'm also interested in going through some of the old world/BC content :)

Part time heroes isn't
Part time heroes isn't connected to this idea. Teng suddenly realized that he wanted to secure that name so he grabbed a charter :p So yes! Please! Register on that site, I'll have a post up to see who is interested in participating there, as well. So I can seperate feedback from a sort of raiding roster.
When you register on WoWStead, you do not need to apply to the guild. The recruiting part is left up from a long time ago. However, if after meeting IC and doing an instance, you DO want to join the guild, then by all means chat with me and we'll see about geting it done. I imagine that the guild itself will remain quite empty, and Covenant will just be what this coalition is called IC.
