The eyes are windows

Zaazas's picture

The small room she had rented in Dalaran was bathed in brilliant darkness. Heavy blankets covered the small window blocking out all sun light. Dark thick bolts of cloth were stuffed around the door frame, preventing any light from seeping in, and muffled any noise coming from the hallway. In the center of the small room, Zaazas sat motionless on the plain wooden chair. In front of her, a small work table. In the middle of the table lay a Dark Jade and Forest Emerald. To either side of the small gems were arranged tools from her Jeweler's kit. Completing the set were two tiny bowls. One gave off a faint glow of soft white, the other, a soft glow of gold, as if the tiniest sliver of sunset resided within. Zaazas sat completely motionless. Her eyes were closed. She slowly let her breath escape her lips. Calm. Relaxed. Ease. Sitting there in complete darkness, relaxed, her mind saw what her eyes could not.

Emerald Eyes.

Zaazas' fingers craddled the Emerald. Her fingers felt the rough cut of the gem. She turned the gem over in her hands. Rough edges. Sharp spurs. Imperfections. As she did, her mind examined the image of the Eyes that had so caught her attention. The eyes held wisdom. The eyes held compassion. They held strength, life, vitality... and they sparkled even in the faintest of light obscured by shadows.

The right hand instinctly selected the first tool and she set to removing and shaping the Emerald. All the while her own eyes remained closed. She had no need to see visually, only to see with her memory and imagination. Flakes of Emerald floated to the table as her hand craddled and caressed the Emerald. Slowly, rough edges became smooth. Sharp spurs were dulled. The minutes stretched into many which stretched into hours. Small grinders became fine files. Carvers became minature picks. Through it all, her eyes remained closed as the eye infront of her began to take shape.

A sigh or relief finally sounded in the room. The orb was ready to be transformed into an eye. Still in utter darkness, Zaazas set the Emerald down unto the table and picked up the bowl softly bathed in a white glow. She set the bowl in front of her and held the Emerald a few inches above.

Concentrating on the image in her mind, she started chanting softly. Slowly, the fine hairs on her arms began to stand on end. The static energies building slowly within her. Her chanting altered to whispering as the energies flowed down her arms. Tiny arcs of arcane energy jumped from hair to hair. A soft glow begain to eminate from her fingers as the channeled energies reached her extremities. Humming softly, she moved her left hand over the bowl of truesilver dust. The static energies enticing the dust to glide up. At the same time, she moved her other hand with the Emerald orb closer so that the orb caught some of the truesilver dust in the tiny canals that had been carved into the gem. Her humming grew louder and as it did, more of the truesilver dust transfered from the bowl to be caught by the static charged orb. A sudden deep breath and the clap of her hands completed the spell and the truesilver dust became infused with the emerald. Setting the bowl to the side, Zaazas duplicated the process with the contents of the other bowl. This one however contained the flakes and dust from gold, citrine and a tiny amount of ruby. A sharp intake of breath and a tiny amount of firey golden sparkles joined the emerald along with the silvery sparkles.

Setting the emerald onto a three pronged stand, Zaazas picked up the Dark Jade. Along with a sturdy mortar and pestle, she gently worked to transform the gem into a fine crystalized powder. Removing the Emerald from the stand, Zaazas began to chant the same spell she used to infuse the emerald with the sparkling dust. Carefully controlling the static energies of arcane power, she cupped the emerald between her hands and over the powdered Jade. Her hands shifted slightly and slowly began to part. The static arcane energies suspending the now slowly spinning emerald between her hands as she slowly lowered them to allow the spell to catch the jade flakes. One by one, tiny flakes of jade merged with the sparkling emerald, filling in the tiny carvings that would become the iris of the eye as well as obscuring most of the truesilver, gold, citrine and ruby dust. As her fingers ever so slightly flexed, the slowly spinning orb of emerald spun in different directions as her imagination guided the spell to recreate those lovely eyes.

Zaazas' deep sudden breath and clap of her hands ended the enchantment and she held the finished eye in her hand. Finally she opened her eyes and looked down. Cupping the jewel in her left hand, she removed her right hand and once again summoned the arcane energies within her. The soft glow cast from her fingertips provided just enough light and the emerald captured the glow, absorbed it. Many shades of green could be seen in the jewel, along with the occasional twinkle of silver or soft gold.

Zaazas smiled to herself and returned the eye to the small stand.

"Perfect."

One down, one to go.

Zaazas reached into her small gem pouch and retrieved another emerald and began to repeat the process.

((My dear Darling...

((My dear Darling, you continue to captivate me with the words you weave so beautifully upon the page.  Like the creation Zaazas holds in her hands, it is both mystifying and beautiful to look into your perspective.  Be well, love.))

Thankee kindly. I look

Thankee kindly. I look forward to more adventures! Without a setting, the eyes are just two gems. I look forward to learning more in order to craft a suitable setting for these most intriguing eyes.

It would appear...

It would appear that I must now tame another Artificer - perhaps one who specializes in statuary. - so that a proper setting will become manifest, dear darling.  I would hate to see them go to waste.
