Red Snow

High in the mountains above Dun Morogh, where the cliffs were treacherous and the trees sparse, it was snowing. There had always been snow in the mountains, as far back as mountains had existed. Snow cared little for the comings and goings of the world. Icy winds whipped it through craggy peaks and forlorn caverns long forgotten. High in the mountains, the snow obscured everything, plunging the world into an impenetrable flurry of white. Few ventured up to such heights - no plant of any value could grow in such conditions, and even fewer creatures could survive. Ice caves wormed into the mountain sides, providing a facsimile of shelter and the occasional tunnel leading deeper, to ancient caverns filled with the artifacts of an age long gone.
