Midnight, Part 1

(( Hello everyone.  Just to make sure everyone is on the same page here:  whatever you happen to know about Sharaneth's past -- which probably isn't much after not blogging her for so long -- FORGET IT.  Never happened.  Although her story line is sort of the same, it has been completely changed due to lore complications and many OMGROFL's, including my own.  Also, the stories will be on a blog I just started, so that if I have a typo, I have one site to fix, instead of three.  Thanks! ))

 

A flash of lightning ripped across the sky, its eye-piercing brilliance diffused but in no way lessened by the choking clouds of black dust which rode upon a full gale.  Moments later, a gut wrenching boom of thunder screamed out against the land, its sound reverberating again and again thanks to the mountains and jagged cliffs which defined the boundary of the valley which had come to be known simply as “The Broken Front.”  The thunder, loud as it was, could not drown out the sounds of the wind, which whistled against the floor of the canyon as it picked up what loose grains of dirt it could find from the hard, baked and blackened surface.  Indeed, there was no snow here, not even a hint of it beyond the occasional frost which would, on rare occasion, be wiped clean, sandblasted to a dull yellowed finish before being covered up by the next passing drift of fine grains.  It could, however, drown out the only sounds of life on this forsaken plane, life which faded away just as surely as the final hints of the sun.
