Preparations for War
Aramalia stood over her desk, a pile of partially-filled official papers to her left and an open notebook on her right. Glancing from right to left, she copied the contents word-for-word onto the fresh parchment with a cautious hand. Despite the late hour, her actions had energy, her eyes a focus that defied the lack of sleep that threatened to close her eyes. She had hoped that there had been some underlying factor that could explain his actions, but no. There could be no reason for these actions. Aramalia rolled her shoulders, not relieving any tension, but succeeding in making a number of cracks and pops. Soon, she thought, soon…Checking for any missed details, she bound the pages together and slipped it into an envelope, sealing it with red wax. He had considered the Virtue of Compassion a weakness. To those who would refuse compassion to others, there would be none.
General Aestan Firatril,
As requested, I have investigated the reports made by a number of citizens both within the city and within the Horde. Based on their testimony, I regrettably inform you that I find it necessary to continue with a formal trial against Hamlen Prideux. The list of charges includes, but is not limited to: assault, threats of violence, harassment, and attempted unlawful arrest. Included are the testimonies I have collected detailing the events. Be sure that these remain private and only seen by you.
Now, I have heard that the voting for the replacement Convocate of Regulation is to happen soon. With Prideux as one of the candidates, this may cause a bit of trouble. I trust that you within the Convocation will find a suitable solution.
Dutifully submitted,
Aramalia Solisbane, Lieutenant-Colonel
Testimony concerning Assault
“Some time ago, I was speaking with people at Fancy Cakes. After hours. Hamlen stood guard at the door. I had invited a young girl – to call her a woman would be borderline ridiculous. No more than a few decades old. She is a mute. She came up behind Hamlen and was fascinated by his armor. I assume she was trying to get his attention, but rather than acknowledge her, he turned around and punched her in the face. It was horrific and sickening. Luckily, there were healers nearby. He turned and left without speaking a word and without trying to help. As soon as I was sure someone was taking care of the girl, I turned my full attention to that metal monstrosity. I demanded that he help the girl, and ordered him to drop his weapon. He ignored me and stalked off. So, later on, I reported the full incident to Aestan. He refused to take any action other than to order Hamlen to follow orders from every Convocate, not just him. I suppose so next time the idiot cracks an unarmed girl’s skull, I can order him to dive on his own blade.” Testimony from Lady Convocate Heathhenel Rosewater, witness.
“We were at Fancy Cakes a while back. He was standing in the doorway, I was outside. He has a very pretty sword, so I was admiring it. I touched something on it, I think it was the little glowing ball on the top. When I did, he turned around and hit me.” To this, she pointed at her eye. “I remember someone gave me tea, and there was alot of yelling. I think someone tended to me, it is all somewhat hazy.” In response to whether she thought she had been struck very hard, she nodded.
Witnesses: “There was a friendly priest I didn’t know. Female, red hair, about my height. Lady Rosewater was also there, she was the one who yelled a lot after.” Testimony from Sulvina, victim.
Testimony concerning Threats of Violence/Harassment
“He was attending some party or something on Kalimdor. He was meeting with a patient or some such nonsense. Hamlen started stalking them. When approached and asked why he was following, Hamlen got violent. He threatened them, and eventually shot Jakobus with a crossbow, unprovoked. This was far outside Silvermoon’s limits, and he had no authority to even be there as a Legionnaire. Let alone the fact that he once again attacked an unarmed person.” Testimony from Lady Convocate Heathhenel Rosewater, as told to her by Jakobus Nachtengaal, victim. Witnessed and confirmed by Aedran Starfire.
“Firstly, he pulled Lord Nachtengaal aside and questioned him about his relationship with someone they referred to as ‘the Adept.’ They doctor stated they were friends. Hamlen said that he knows the consequence if their relationship is anything else. Lord Nachtengaal said, “A slow, painful death?” Hamlen said, “No, I will grant you a swift one.” He threatened to kill the doctor, and not even for any illegal activity. Just something he does not approve of. He, as a member of the Legion, cannot hurl such threats around. Lord Nachtengaal…he, erm…He said to me that he would not admit this incident happened, if you were to approach him about it. But Lady Starfire saw it, and she will confirm my story.” Testimony from Aurumna Sharphorn, witness. Witnessed and confirmed by Aedran Starfire.
“On his way out, there were people in the road. Not blocking the entire road, just in it. Hamlen told them to move or they would be run over. The troll, Xiuhteena, yelled for him to go around and not hurt anyone. Hamlen said that the people are not protected by Silvermoon’s laws here, and therefore he can injure them. I believe he said he has ‘all the rights of a common bandit.’ His words, not mine. The troll said that he is not protected, therefore, either. I stated that they both were wrong. As a member of the Legion, the people cannot hurt him without being subject to our laws. But likewise, despite the fact that he’s outside the city, he must follow our laws and not hurt anyone. He began hurling insults at me. I took up a position in front of the crowd, to prevent him from running any of them over. He called me a pawn, an idiot, a ‘political whore’. I pointed out my position under Regulation. He called me a liar and proceeded to insult me. He took out various weapons in an attempt to intimidate me. He even produced a crossbow. Eventually, the crowd dispersed, so I stepped aside that he might pass. The troll, and anyone else outside, saw and heard everything. You can talk to any of them for confirmation.” Testimony from Aurumna Sharphorn, witnessed and confirmed by Xiuhteena, Dubaku, Zyjiin, Khatarra Thunderhorn.
Testimony concerning Attempted Unlawful Arrest
“Recently, there was an argument at Fancy Cakes. The troll woman who helps run the place and some kid were fighting over the Light knows what. Hamlen decided he had the authority to command the situation. He effectively shut down the business and started the interrogation. After disrupting business and realizing that no one had committed any crimes, he decided to arrest both the troll and the boy, due to lack of evidence. Arresting people because he couldn’t prove they committed a crime. Furthermore, a member of the Black Fellowship stepped forward and ordered Hamlen to release them, due to the fact that prisoners are under the authority of Regulation. Hamlen refused, scoffed, and marched off with the prisoners.” Testimony from Lady Convocate Heathhenel Rosewater, as given by a letter from the Black Fellowship member, witness.
“He couldn’t even name the crime. At first, he told me I was being arrested for public disturbance. But I had only arrived at the shop when the shop keeper, Xiuhteena, began screaming at me and raging. Eventually he tried to arrest us both because he couldn’t figure out which one of us was lying. I buggered off. He attempted to arrest us first, couldn’t muddle it through, then attempted an investigation with a demand we return to be arrested. Again. He’s worse than a blind butcher.” Testimony from Iloam Blacksong, victim.
“Oh? Iloam? I thought he had sexually assaulted a friend of mine. That whole business was taken care of. My friend and Iloam talked it out, it was misunderstanding…they were both drunk and stupid. I don’t know, but I did ask him to arrest Iloam at the time. He said there needed to be an investigation…he said I might be arrested if things turned out to be false. Little later after that the tauren who works with you folks said I had been dropped of any charges.” Testimony from Xiuhteena, victim.

I appear ingame as Khatarra. Maybe I should see if I can get this account renamed - the name this character recognizes ingame changed around the time she died and became a DK.
For the technical aspects behind this, it's just 'cause immediately prior to Wrath launch, this character was actually a hunter whom I had no intention of deleting. So, name collision and all that...
))

((Well, hmmm...this does make for a conundrum. Well, I'd like to keep the char's official IC name in the links, if that's okay, or else it might get a pinch confusing when it comes to the given testimonies. I hope you don't mind that.
Also, I'd like to take the time in this note to thank all the lovely RPers who contributed to this post by giving me their testimonies. These are all their words that I copied down and included in this, hence the difference between the regular names and those that are just mentioned/implied. It was a joy to RP with you loves, even you, Iloam.))

It started off as an effect created by an OOC situation (can't have duplicate character names on the server) but I've long since worked it in ICly as well. So yes, her name as it appears ingame is now technically the correct one. The haven account here is what needs to be adjusted. :P

((
Hmm......so almost ALL of the case rests on Lady Heathhenel Rosewater, who, judging by this, appears to be the main witness for everything?
Gosh, I wonder what would happen if she were to disappear? *cough do it Hamlen, do it cough* That would leave the prosecution with a mute, a known criminal, a pirate and some drunks at a pub. Booyah. I'm just thinking aloud here ;)
So.......has Aramalia considered running for Regulation? Seems like a sane candidate would be useful inclusion >.> (Sane-ish. I shouldn't make assumptions.)

I can also attest...
((Penned by the hand of the Majistrix, Soulwyn Darkweaver and no other.
Addressed to: The Lords and Ladies of the Convocation.))
I pray thee, Lords and Ladies, hear my words:
I wish to attest to Hamlen Prideux's boarishly neanderthalic conduct at the location referred to as the Laughing Zhevra in the port town of Ratchet. I arrived late to the event, only to find nigh on a dozen citizens of the Horde being threatened with physical violence by the brutish and lazy male. He remained astride his mechano-hog brandishing threats of running the entire collection of patrons over with the ghastly conveyance. Furthermore, as I attempted to sway him to peaceful return to Silvermoon for actual business of some interest to the Convocate, he refused to take any interest in such an affair whatsoever.
It appears to me that his interest in self-promotion and advancement within the Convocation appears to be solely motivated by his desire to have a worthwhile title to bandy about in his attempts to subjugate the citizens of not only our allies within the horde, but the hardworking men and women within Silvermoon City itself.
I pray such testimony be heard, and the respectable members of the Convocation heed this as warning. Our people have suffered greatly for far too long. The Convocate of Regulation needs to have some proper decorum and a keen intellect if they are to create a sense of authority, integrity, and retain the compliance of the citizens of the city which is due the Convocation as a governing body. I implore you, do not allow these unsavory, illegal, and worse - all-too-public! - displays to continue. Such conduct offends far too many of our people, and we cannot risk that the end result become a devaluing of the authority of the Convocation's authority in whole or in part.
In conclusion, I ask that this matter be attended to swiftly and with all authority for the sake and safety of those who have been, are being, and may yet be victimized by this plated troglodyte.
Sincerely,
Majistrix Soulwyn Darkweaver.
((AKA, I would happen, even if the Lady-Convocate were to fall... ill. Soulwyn has yet to find a single redeeming characteristic in Hamlen, and has found herself highly motivated to become an obstacle in his path to personal advancement at this juncture. :) ))
"Interesting." Kerwin
"Interesting." Kerwin frowns, reading over the briefs prepared for him by the messengers. "She claims to leave politics, mires herself in possibilities of treason, and now, she puts herself in Rosewater's pocket...." He sighs. This was carefully timed, the only strong, known candidate besides Rosewater's own cunning little viper of a magestrix now trapped in a scandal on the eve of the elections. An elementary ploy, if effective, and one the old elf knew Prideux would likely fall for. For all his worth as a mailed fist, the lad was woefully underequipped for politics. It would likely fall to him to keep this from turning into a witch hunt for subversives.
"I had thought so much more of you, child."
(("Rosewater's own cunning little viper of a magestrix "
(("Rosewater's own cunning little viper of a magestrix "
Why, Sebastien! Thank you so much for the lovely compliment. I thought I'd inadvertantly not made a proper impression on you. ::chuckles::
While Soul doesn't actually 'belong' to Rosewater, she does find herself in uncommon agreement with her on a wide range of social matters. Time will tell how agreeable they are with respect to politics. ))
((While yes, most of the
((While yes, most of the testimonies start with Rosewater, it's also because most of the primary witnesses complained to her about Hamlen's actions. Naturally, as the face of the Convocation, she would be receiving the most information aside from the General. And truly, Heulwen, I find you far too critical of the other witnesses. That and those so-called drunks were perfectly sober at the time of the event.
As for Ara going for Regulation...while she might be convinced, she rather likes her position as Lieutenant-Colonel.
And Seb, my goodness, so quick to judge! Putting herself in Rosewater's pocket? You're floating way in left field. She spoke with Heathhenel to gather information as Aestan had told her she had heard some complaints, then branched her investigation from there. As for it being a ploy, while Ara doesn't want Hamlen in the Convocation at all, the time of the admission of the report was coincidental. I was finally able to talk to Iloam and finish up with the official testimonies.))
((Appearance trumps
((Appearance trumps actuality in the world of politics, hon. I've learned that lesson way too many times. Even if it wasn't meant that way, it looks that way, and if it looks that way it doesn't matter what you say it is - people form their own opinions and political moves are made in platitudes and calls for justice while money exchanges hands and daggers are pulled in the background.
Now, someone outside looking in expects Ara to say "this was innocent/coincidence" to dodge culpability, as no one's going to come out and say "yes, I'm plotting" in the world of politics, and it's a lot easier to believe someone is being dishonest even if they aren't. Much hugs though, the old man's just cracking his knuckles for the most part.))
((Hehe, the only reason
((Hehe, the only reason Ara's even working with Heath in this is to shut Hamlen down. She's gained a bit of respect for Rosewater as the Lady Convocate gave her testimony, but that's a far shot from having a pocket Ara. And I'm all too familiar with Seb jumping to conclusions, but I'd think he'd have some pondering as it wasn't until very recently that Ara and Heath have even shared friendly conversation with each other.
As for the timing, well, it had to be presented before the vote, that was for certain, though gathering all the testimonies took more time than I thought. It's funny that this was posted immediately after Aestan's advertisement. If I hadn't had internet problems, this would have been posted hours earlier.))
